Units of Inquiry & Learning Experiences

Students at OWN 3 engage in learning experiences throughout the day that are intentionally connected to their Units of Inquiry. While remaining true to the content and expectations of the curriculum, teachers make purposeful shifts in how students demonstrate their learning. Learning experiences are thoughtfully designed by teachers, who reflect on best practices, analyze data, and apply age-appropriate instructional approaches to create engaging, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities.

At the beginning of the year, fourth graders engaged in a project focused on learning about themselves and one another. Students developed presentations that highlighted who they are and how each individual is an important part of the classroom community. This work was grounded in the IB Learner Profile attribute of Open-Minded, as students explored and respected one another’s similarities and differences while building a strong, inclusive learning community.

Second Graders learned about different types of communities

Below are two samples of different communities. The first community is urban, the second is a rural community.

Students in second grade were asked to research community members. After they wrote about different ways they could be good community members in order to improve society.
